You will spend the first 10-15 minutes of every class drawing in your sketch book. If you finish an assignment early, you can do sketches. Sketches may be done at home Each finished sketch counts for %2 of your final mark Only work that is finished, i.e. shows what you have learned in Art class, will be counted. That would include a knowledge of shading, perspective, colour, line, shape, texture, and composition.
Design - No marker . Objects extending to or past the edge of the paper, in interesting arrangements. You may use coloured pencil, pencil, pen and ink.
Design an image that relates to a period in Art history.
Find a famous painting and update it for this year.
Using perspective, draw the interior of a room, real or imagined. Use shading to show where the light is coming from.
Create an abstract pattern using organic shapes, such as the outline of your hand. Fill the spaces with colours and textures. Have a variety of shapes, layers and sizes.
Create a short comic strip using your own characters.
Create a continuous line drawing (your pencil doesn’t leave the page until you are finished, like an ‘etch-a-sketch’) with detail and shading.
Draw a picture with shading. Cut your picture into shapes. Paste the shapes into a new design.
Draw a city block in perspective. It may contain any details you wish (time of year, country, etc.)
Design a poster for a movie you may have seen.
Create a company logo that matches similar logos for the same sort of product.
Draw a poem or short story with pictures and words on the same page.
Make a picture using only words or letters to draw with
Still Life -Objects extending to or past the edge of the paper. Draw them in pencil with shading.
Arrange your shoes in an interesting way and draw them.
Draw your hands the best you can in different positions. Draw more than one on a single page.
Draw something close up in high detail.
Draw an arrangement of flowers, not from memory.
Create a still life from objects around the room, and fill your page with an up close picture of it.
Create a drawing without using line, only shading.
Draw a still life using different materials for different sections.
Draw from memory a place you once visited.
Draw an abstract pattern then use those lines to create a realistic still life.
Create a still life using bits of colour paper from magazines etc.
From your seat, draw the Art room with perspective. The vanishing point may appear off of your page.
Create a still life from something you may have seen in a dream.
Technique – Fill your page, experimenting with different materials (pencil, charcoal, pen) or kinds of line, or texture.
Practice drawing faces (portraits) using a mirror or a partner.
Practice perspective drawing in a landscape. Remember to include details in the foreground as well as the background.
Draw a person using the wood mannequins. Sketch them in different styles and positions.
Create a drawing using only shading, and no line.
Sketch a still life using a pen. Use hatching and cross hatching to shade.
Study a famous work of art from one of the posters in the room, and re-create it in a different material.
Draw the reflections on a shiny object.
Create a drawing from a magazine/newspaper photo.
Draw an image multiple times using a different sketching style for each one, i.e. hatching, stippling, scribbling, mixed media, etc.
Use light and shadow to create a strong composition. See the Rembrandt portrait on the wall for ideas. Light and dark areas should balance, and reach all four sides of your page.
Using perspective, draw small objects as if they were very large, like paper clips or clothespins.
Draw a visible object (hand, jar, book, etc.) without looking at your paper or lifting your pencil. Include as many details as you can, not just the outside shape.
Creative Creations – Fill the entire page, in any material in any style
Create an abstract image that shows emotion. Draw ‘happy’ or ‘sad’, using line, shape, value, texture. Do not use images of actual objects
Design a new vehicle.
Draw an image as though you had x-ray vision.
Draw your view from an airplane window
Draw a ‘visual pun’. Example: draw ‘time flies’, by drawing a clock with wings.
Draw a view from under a magnifying glass.
Combine two different objects into one object. (i.e. pencil sharpener race car)
Draw a picture that contains multiple different views of the same object. Layer your images and change the size of each drawing.
Create a picture that uses different materials to shade with (collage, crayon, plastic bag, rags, chalk, pen, etc.)
Design a ridiculously complicated machine for a simple task (i.e. cracking an egg).
Invent or re-invent something. Create notes to explain what your invention does and label the parts. You may need to create several sketches first.
Create a ‘storyboard’ for a segment of a video game, movie or TV show.
